TASCAM BR-20, 2 Track Recorder /Reproducer - Excellent Physical Condition. Sale includes rare TASCAM RC402 Remote Control, Tascam Literature, and Tascam Operations and Maintenance Manual. The TASCAM BR-20 is a professional analog stereo reel-to-reel tape recorder/reproducer known for its robust design and features like balanced professional audio connections, dual tape speeds (7.5 and 15 ips), and a 5-point autolocator. It was manufactured from around 1992 to 2004 and was the last reel-to-reel model made by TASCAM. This one was bought sometime in 2000 as a small literature book was included in the owner's manual packet, (see below). Key features included a parallel I/O port for synchronizers, remote start/stop, and a built-in splicing block. These are sought after as they are audiophile dream, high quality 1/2 track machine which utilizes all of the tape in stereo mode and records in one direction only. The highest quality tape configuration possible for a 1/4" tape. It uses all of the tape, in a single pass in a single direction. The downside? This means that pre recorded 4 track bi-directional prerecorded tapes or tapes made on 4 track machines will not play in this system. You will have to record all of your material on tape, or find material that is single direction 2 track.
Condition: This unit was tested by DALAUDIO and is in working condition. The belt was reported to have been changed sometime in 2022, as the previous owner, a meticulous engineer, reported. In any event it was recently inspected by DALAUDIO and found to be in good condition, and operational. The deck requires near nothing to operate. The tape brakes system, tracking systems, RTZ etc, record and playback, pots etc all function. Pinch roller is functional, and might be about the only thing we recommend changing going forward. This unit was purchased by a local audio engineer for his studio collection.
