The Onkyo TX-4500 is a highly regarded, classic 1970s vintage AM/FM stereo receiver known for its exceptional build quality, warm sound signature, and being the first receiver to feature a quartz-locked tuner. Often considered a "hidden gem" compared to its more mainstream contemporaries from Pioneer or Marantz, it provides clean power and a distinct vintage aesthetic. The TX-4500 was produced in the mid-to-late 1970s (released around 1976–1978), delivering 55 watts per channel into 8 ohms. It features a quartz-locked tuning system, a warm analog soundstage, and a walnut-grained vinyl cabinet. This unit comes with the original operating manual and a new FM antenna. If you want a digital copy of the service manual please bring a drive. Recent Service: This unit was recently serviced by DALAUDIO. The power supply caps and voltages checked, amplifier DC offset (<20 mV - Actual is 9mV-R/11mV-L!) and Bias/Idle set to specification in service manual 20 mV (±5 mV). All bulbs in the unit have been replaced (2 Meter, 3 Tuner, 7 Source, 4 dial scale). The unit was checked on all inputs and outputs, caps that were out of spec or causing us not to be able to set specs properly were removed and replaced. Other components (tantalum/electrolytic capacitors, resistors, Hitachi TO92 transistors), were removed/replaced as needed. The units tuner was tested and FM required alignment to allow lock signal to work properly. The output was checked with both 8 and 4 ohm loads over a 12 hour period. Unit is working as it should.
