The Marantz HD-880 is a renowned, high-end 4-way speaker from the late 1970s, designed by legendary JBL designer Ed May These are easily considered one of Marantz's finest achievements. These vintage speakers are known for their impressive and detailed sound, capable of reproducing a wide range of frequencies, a feature enhanced by their adjustable bass reflex ports. They are highly sought after by vintage audio enthusiasts for their original sound quality, original components, and classic design. Made from 1978 to 1980, they are considered "true gems" and a testament to high-end speaker design from that era. As one of Marantz's top-tier speakers, they are a valuable part of audio history. Even after 50 years later, they are praised for their ability to handle a wide dynamic range of complex musical passages, from deep drums to woodwinds.
The speakers were recently serviced and tested by DALAUDIO. The bass drivers were removed and rebuilt with new surrounds and dust caps, as DALAUDIO uses proper shims to center voice coils within the air gap. While this take more time and a steady hand to remove the dust caps, it's the proper way to rebuild valuable speakers. The crossovers were serviced and are fully operational as are the variable crossover controls. The are in full operational condition and sound as they should. Please take the time to see all photos. These are in very good overall cosmetic condition, the cabinets are a solid 8 out of ten, the grills have some pilling but posts are intact. The photos tell the story. We have a set of custom aftermarket foam plugs and Marantz grill emblems ordered that will be provided to the buyer to complete the set. I will upload a photo when they arrive.
