The Bose Model 301 Series III is a vintage 2-way bookshelf speaker system built around Bose's signature Direct/Reflecting technology. Introduced originally in the early 1990s, these speakers are widely recognized for using wall reflections to recreate the wide, spacious soundstage of a live musical performance. The marketing from Bose indicates that the reflective technology fills the entire room with music, eliminating the narrow "sweet spot" of standard speakers so you can sit anywhere and enjoy a stereo image. Unlike some vintage speakers that need to be cranked up to sound alive, the 301 Series III maintains a clean, full-bodied presence at lower listening levels. Keep in mind that for best performance, they must be positioned horizontally and placed roughly 18 inches away from a rear and side wall so the tweeters have surfaces to reflect sound off of.
