ART MDC 2001 Stereo Master Dynamics Controller is a stereo dynamics controller, released in the 1990s, that combines various processing functions into a single rack-mounted unit. It features a compressor, de-esser, expander, noise gate, exciter, and peak limiter/clipper, along with detector circuits and insert points. This makes it a versatile tool for mastering, vocal processing, and overall mix dynamics control. Recently Tested by DALAUDIO and is in good working condition. A digital copy of the manual is available if you bring a USB drive. This is a very clean unit.

Key Features and Functions:
- Stereo Compression/Limiting: The MDC 2001 offers a compressor with adjustable threshold, ratio, attack, and release times, allowing for precise control over the dynamic range.
- De-esser: The unit includes a de-esser to reduce excessive sibilance, especially when using high levels of compression.
- Expander: An expander helps reduce noise during signal pauses, particularly useful for vocal processing.
- Noise Gate: The noise gate effectively reduces unwanted background noise, contributing to a cleaner signal.
- Exciter: The exciter function can be used to add clarity and brightness to the audio signal.
- Peak Limiter/Clipper: This feature prevents signal clipping, ensuring a clean output.
- Detector Circuits: Two detector circuits with insert points allow for creative external processing possibilities.
- Connectivity: The MDC 2001 offers balanced XLR and unbalanced 1/4" TRS inputs and outputs for easy integration into various audio setups.
- Controls: The front panel features dedicated controls for each function, including threshold, ratio, attack, release, and output level, along with LED metering for monitoring.
- Compact Design: The unit occupies a single rack space, making it convenient for studio or live sound environments.
Analog Processing: Despite its digital-like features, the MDC 2001 performs these functions in the analog domain.
Uses:
- Mastering: The MDC 2001 is well-suited for mastering audio, providing tools to control dynamics, reduce sibilance (with the de-esser), and shape the overall loudness and impact of a mix.
- Vocal Processing: The compressor, expander, and de-esser can be used to refine vocal tracks, controlling dynamics and reducing harshness or unwanted noise.
- General Mix Dynamics: The device can be used to shape the dynamics of any instrument or group of instruments within a mix, providing tools for both subtle control and more aggressive processing.
