Akai GX-625 Reel to Reel Tape Deck 3 GX heads 2 Speeds, Tested Working Please See Details - This unit was recently tested by DALAUDIO. It comes with no NAB Hubs, Reels or Tape. It is in near mint physical condition. Technical condition is good as all functions operate; Rec, FF, RW, Pause, Play etc. The potentiometers track as they should. We did not need to service these but cleaned them anyway. The pitch control is working. We even did some minor alignment of record and playback head. The problem we have in indicating it is in excellent working condition is that we have some tape, but none of it is recent enough to do a proper set-up! We only see a few of these each year, and on this unit we are competent but not the expert. If you are this unit is for you. You likely know that fully restored, these go for a boat load. Personally I do not use RTR's or I would keep this one! We will include a digital copy of the service manual, and owners manual, please bring a USB based storage stick.

A bit more testing detail: Every tape we tried had some sonic degradation, some better than others. We did find a good section in a reel and did our testing and set up with it. The NAB hubs and aluminum reels shown are not included. We will demo the unit with them. We injected our typical 1kHz, 2.5kHz, 10kHz and 15 Khz test tones to align both PB and REC heads given the above, as best we can per manual. They track within less than a dB of each other when switching between source and record (tape). The belts have not been changed. We are selling the unit as it is with no returns. We are happy to demo, with a days notice. A perfect unit for someone who is inclined to perfect it. If we were not behind 10 weeks in our repair already, we would have gone further.
